Providing students with choice and flexibility in how they learn
The Imaginarium defined Personalized Learning as an approach to education that focuses on building students’ identities as lifelong learners, so that, over time, they develop a full-fledged sense of learner agency and ownership of their academic progress. In a Personalized Learning environment, learners have choice and flexibility in how they learn in order to develop intrinsic motivation, increase engagement in learning, and build self-determination.
Instruction focuses on learner voice-oriented activities in order to foster learners’ influence, responsibility, advocacy and leadership. In a Personalized Learning classroom, there are high expectations for learning and all learners adhere to high academic standards in order to ensure all reach their full potential
